Rebates. I will count the rebates immediately towards the total amount. I will keep track of when I get the rebates back. At the end, if I do not get the rebate back, then I will subtract that amount.

It has to be real money. Not money “saved”. For instance, I got a $30 gas card from another purchase and filled my gas tank – I cannot add that $30 towards my total amount. Now, i can sell the gift card and then use that towards my total amount.

Shipping counts as the total purchased but also part of the sale.

Tax will not count. It would be too confusing to keep track of this due to the online orders not counting tax. I keep track of all my purchases and pay the tax at the end of the year but for some online purchases tax is not included. Because of this complexity, I’m just keeping tax out of the equation.

Bonuses such as 1% back on Paypal/Discover credit card or Fatwallet will get added immediately towards total.
